Cuts in Legal Aid Contract Grant Scheme
Recently, the Legal Services Commission has announced cuts in the Legal Aid contract grant scheme. This has been announced in order to save the government 2.6m per year. Since it began in 2002 the scheme has assisted over 750 trainee solicitors, who were awarded £20,000 each.
The Young Legal Aid Lawyers Group said, “These contracts went some way toward sustaining the flow of talented entrants into the legal aid sector and made sure that legal aid work is not a closed door to applicants from poorer backgrounds.”
At Brendan Fleming’s we are saddened by this news, but understand that the government must save money during this time and the Legal Services Commission must find ways to make these cuts. However, we remain committed to ensuring our Clients benefit from the talent, commitment and dedication of young solicitors, who as ever remain the future of this practice. We are always happy to hear from those who are interested in joining our brilliant team. As Brendan Fleming says, “We are passionate about training new solicitors as they are the central to the success of our company. As such our future is in their hands.” We are incredibly lucky to have 3 trainee solicitors. We also have 3 fantastic paralegals working towards their training contracts.
