Fears of Elitism in Legal Profession

The Junior Lawyers Division has recently claimed that some law firms are exploiting newly qualified lawyers. Many are being asked to work voluntarily whilst working towards completing their training contract. With some only being offered paralegal roles, without the prospect of training contracts.

This is worrying as it leaves those from poorer backgrounds at a loss. This is as it will not be financially viable to work without getting paid.

At Brendan Fleming’s we work hard to ensure our staff our happy and are training as many people as we can. In our Family and Children’s Proceedings Department we have 3 trainee solicitors and 3 paralegals with guaranteed training contracts when a place becomes available.

We do everything we can to get promising young lawyers into the field. As after all they will be the future of family law. Brendan said, "Having come from a poorer background myself, I understand the importance of fair access to the profession."
